A resolution recognizing Judge William Higgins for his 50 years of service to Nashville and Davidson County upon the occasion of his retirement.

WHEREAS, William E. "Bill" Higgins is a judge for the General Sessions Court, Division VII in Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee and recently announced his retirement from his long career on the bench; and
WHEREAS, Judge Higgins was first elected to the court in 1980 and was re-elected without opposition in 1982, 1990, 1998, 2006, and 2014; and
WHEREAS, Higgins is a graduate of Cohn High School and Vanderbilt University, and received his J.D. from the Nashville School of Law; and
WHEREAS, prior to receiving his law degree, Higgins served two years active duty in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and rose to the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged; and
WHEREAS, after receiving his law degree, Higgins practiced law for 13 years and was elected to the Metropolitan Council for three terms representing District 24; and
WHEREAS, Judge Higgins is an active volunteer in many community organizations and is a member of several bar associations as well as the Nashville City Civitan Club, the American Legion Post 5, the NAACP, and the West Nashville Masonic Lodge and Al Menah Shrine; and
WHEREAS, Higgins is a member of the Church of Christ congregation; and
WHEREAS, Higgins is married to the former Janice Livingston and has three adult children and seven grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honors and thanks Judge William Higgins for his many years of dedicated service to Nashville and Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Judge William Higgins for his 50 years of service to Nashville and Davidson County upon the occasion of his retirement.
