WHEREAS, this October, Metropolitan Water Services ("MWS") received the 2022 Tennessee Solar Energy Industries Association ("TenneSEIA") - Solar Champion Award; and

WHEREAS, the Solar Champion Award is given annually to recognize individuals and organizations who undertake innovative projects that encourage the adoption of solar in the Tennessee Valley; and

WHEREAS, since 2012, MWS has undertaken many projects with the goal of saving energy, including a Solar Services Agreement that is the first of its kind in Tennessee, construction of 4MK of solar currently underway, an additional 6MW of solar planned for construction, and Nashville's first Net Zero Energy building; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is developing 200MW distributed solar projects on rooftops, ground, and canopies; and

WHEREAS, MWS has been an advocate for solar, taking on new approaches as TVA programs have changed; and

WHEREAS, MWS's Solar Services Agreement will have lasting impacts on the industry because it saves money and requires no capital outlay; and

WHEREAS, MWS is working meet the Metropolitan Government's goal of 100% tier-one renewable energy by 2041 as required by Ordinance No. BL2019-1600, adopted by the Metropolitan Council on June 4, 2019; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council celebrates MWS's commitment to deliver safe, clean, and reliable water and waste services in a sustainable manner to Nashville and Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as congratulating Metropolitan Water Services as the recipient of the 2022 Tennessee Solar Energy Industries Association - Solar Champion Award.
