title
A resolution recognizing the contributions of linemen and recognizing April 18, 2026, as National Linemen Appreciation Day in Nashville and Davidson County.
body
WHEREAS, the United States Congress first designated April 18 as National Lineman Appreciation Day in 2013 as a way to recognize linemen in their contributions following Hurricane Sandy in the previous year; and
WHEREAS, linemen require extensive training, bravery, and technical ability to perform the everyday duties of their profession; and
WHEREAS, linemen are often first responders during storms and other catastrophic events, working to make the scene safe for other public safety personnel; and
WHEREAS, during Winter Storm Fern, hundreds of linemen worked around the clock in freezing temperatures to respond to one of the largest power outages in the history of Nashville Electric Service (“NES”); and
WHEREAS, the linemen’s efforts did not end with the storm, as they are still working across NES territory to permanently repair temporary fixes and strengthen the electric grid; and
WHEREAS, linemen play a vital role in the economy by maintaining and expanding energy infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, linemen must often work under dangerous conditions separated from their families to keep schools, hospitals, and businesses open; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that this Metropolitan Council recognize the contribution of linemen to keep this city going, often under dangerous conditions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council does hereby recognize the contributions of linemen towards keeping power on and protecting public safety and recognizes April 18, 2026, as National Lineman Appreciation Day.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
