A resolution supporting a bid from Special Olympics Tennessee to host the 2030 Special Olympic USA Games in Nashville.

WHEREAS, the Special Olympics USA Games is a national athletic event held every four years that promotes perseverance, ability, and inclusion though sport; and
WHEREAS, the event attracts thousands of athletes and coaches representing all 50 states that engage in 15 to 20 team and individual sports along with an estimated tens of thousands of volunteers and fans to enthusiastically support them; and
WHEREAS, the seventh edition of the Special Olympics USA Games is set to be held in June 2030 and nationally televised by ABC and ESPN; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Tennessee is bidding to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games would allow Nashville and Davidson County celebrate those with intellectual disabilities across the nation and create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for athletes and their families; and
WHEREAS, the games would create an enduring legacy of inclusion, determination, health, and community for people with intellectual disabilities in Nashville and Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, the site of the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games is set to be selected by December 1, 2024, and it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council endorses Special Olympics Tennessee’s efforts to hold the event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council herby goes on record to express its support of Special Olympics Tennessee’s bid to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games in Nashville and Davidson County.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
