A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the Davidson County Election Commission and all the poll workers for a successful 2020 Presidential Election.

WHEREAS, the integrity of our election system is a key component of a functioning democratic process; and
WHEREAS, the Davidson County Election Commission has always made it a priority to operate safe and effective elections in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, most citizens cannot appreciate the many hours of work required by Election Commission staff and poll workers in order to hold a successful election, including training and logistical planning; and
WHEREAS, holding a safe and effective election during the COVID-19 global pandemic posed unprecedented challenges for election officials; and
WHEREAS, the 2020 Presidential Election in Davidson County, including both the early voting process and Election Day voting, was a resounding success, with no complaints of voter intimidation, widespread equipment failure, or an unsafe environment; and
WHEREAS, Davidson County had a total of 1,858 poll workers for early voting and Election Day, with eight of the poll workers being under the age of 18; and
WHEREAS, 220,983 citizens early voted, and 34,300 absentee ballots were received and processed by the Election Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Davidson County Election Commission successfully processed 308,325 votes for President and 300,941 U.S. Senate votes, both of which were record numbers; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Davidson County Election Commission, staff, and poll workers for their outstanding work in holding the 2020 Presidential election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
