A resolution recognizing the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee for their efforts in standing against injustice.

WHEREAS, the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee will hold its annual Stand Against Injustice community rally; and

WHEREAS, this event will include a recognition event for the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965; and

WHEREAS, the recognition event will be hosted with the League of Women Voters and take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Scarritt Bennett Center; and

WHEREAS, the YWCA is an organization dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women throughout Nashville and Middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee was founded in 1898 and has a long tradition and history of bringing together families of all races for many years; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Triangle branch of the YWCA merged with the Central Association to become one, integrated YWCA in 1964; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters continues its century-long commitment to a mission of empowering voters and defending democracy; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Nashville believes this is an important moment to recommit to the values of equity and inclusion that are the legacy of the Voting Rights Act; and

WHEREAS, this Voting Rights Act recognition event is an opportunity for nonpartisan organizations committed to voting rights and civic engagement to gather in solidarity while reaffirming a shared commitment to equity, representation, and democratic participation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee for their efforts in standing against injustice.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
