A resolution honoring the life of Larysa A. Jackson.

WHEREAS, Larysa A. Jackson, beloved daughter, sister, mother, friend, and musician, passed away on December 8, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Larysa was born on October 21, 1984, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Wendell Hamilton Sr. and Sharon Hamilton. Even as a young girl, she was known for her powerful voice and lively personality; and
WHEREAS, a gifted musician and singer from an early age, Larysa began singing in her father's church choir. As a teenager, she moved to Nashville and shared her passion for music at Oasis Church and throughout the Nashville community as an active member of the music scene; and
WHEREAS, known professionally as Larysa Jaye, her music had a genre-defying sound, embracing country, soul, and acoustic. Larysa connected to others through song by sharing personal stories; and
WHEREAS, Larysa had recently graduated from the The Academy of Country Music's OnRamp Program and was a current member of The Recording Academy, The Black Music Action Coalition, and the Black Opry; and
WHEREAS, Larysa was also the only black woman currently to have a residency on Broadway, at Justin Timberlake's 1230 Club; and
WHEREAS, she received many accolades including multiple Nashville Independent Spirit Award nominations. She lent her voice to internationally known artists such as Lauren Daigle, Danny Gokey, and Carrie Underwood, and even collaborated with Christian Artist and DC Talk Alum Kevin Max; and
WHEREAS, Larysa was a devoted mother to her four children Kadyn, Shakira, Kingston, and Sydney. She also leaves behind her parents Wendell and Sharon Hamilton and siblings DiCarlos McNeely, Kimberley Nicole Estelle, and Nathan and Wendell Hamilton Jr.; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council honor the life of Larysa A. Jackson.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY THAT:
