WHEREAS, the Women of the Church committee hosted the first Waffle Shop fundraiser in 1924 at what was originally known as the First Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS, the women and other members of The Downtown Presbyterian Church have continued to host the Waffle Shop each year and on its 100th anniversary it has become Nashville's longest-running nonprofit fundraiser; and
WHEREAS, over the past century, thousands of volunteers have given of their time and talents to support the Waffle Shop fundraiser; and
WHEREAS, for decades The Downtown Presbyterian Church has requested and received the enthusiastic support of downtown businesses, restaurants, retail shops, and more; and
WHEREAS, thousands of Nashville residents have attended Waffle Shop, many now bringing their children and grandchildren to a beloved holiday event; and
WHEREAS, for 100 years, and in a myriad of ways, proceeds from Waffle Shop have helped meet the needs of the less advantaged members of the Nashville community; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 Waffle Shop is dedicated to the members who founded The Downtown Presbyterian Church, committing to its historic preservation; and
WHEREAS, The Downtown Presbyterian Church presents the history of its Egyptian Revival Architecture through sanctuary tours and pipe organ performances during Waffle Shop; and
WHEREAS, The Downtown Presbyterian Church seeks to connect attendees with Nashville's rich history and traditions; and
WHEREAS, the 100th Waffle Shop event will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Downtown Presbyterian Church, located at 154 Rep. John Lewis Way.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY THAT:
Section 1. The Downtown Presbyterian Church's members are recognized and congratulated for hosting their 100th Waffle Shop event.
