A resolution honoring the Nashville Humane Association on the occasion of its 80th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Nashville Humane Association ("NHA") was founded in 1946 to protect the well-being of animals. However, NHA has roots in Nashville as far back as 1887 as an organization dedicated to the protection of livestock and working animals, making it one of the oldest service organizations in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, NHA has worked over the years to grow to continue to meet the evolving needs of animals and families across Davidson County. NHA has expanded its work to include services such as pet adoptions, low-cost vaccine and spay/neuter clinics, a weekly Pet Food Bank, foster care, disaster relief, and humane education; and
WHEREAS, as a part of the community, NHA works with the Metropolitan Government to provide services aimed at reducing the barriers to pet ownership such as their low-cost spay and neuter clinic in partnership with Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control; and
WHEREAS, NHA works to be a safe space for animals and the people that love them. NHA has recently become the first KultureCity-certified animal shelter in the Southeast, meaning that the NHA team is trained to support guests with sensory needs; and
WHEREAS, through programs such as their grant-funded landlord deposits, community vaccination clinics, and training support, NHA helps to keep animals in homes; and
WHEREAS, in 2025, 2,691 shelter animals were adopted from NHA into loving homes and NHA facilitated the fostering of 1,720 animals, and NHA launched a 24/7 microchip scanning station to reunite lost animals with their families; and
WHEREAS, NHA strives to maintain a 99 percent save rate, and has been successful through community support through donations of time and money. In 2025, NHA hosted 571 volunteers for 13,279 hours of service; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Nashville Humane Association for 80 years of dedicated servi...
