A resolution honoring the life of Alyssa Lokits.

WHEREAS, Alyssa Lokits was an avid runner, traveler, and friend to all; and
WHEREAS, her life was senselessly and tragically taken on October 14 while exercising on the Mill Creek Greenway; and
WHEREAS, Alyssa was an inspiration to all who knew her, a champion for the less fortunate, and a lifelong learner who spoke Arabic, French, Spanish, and German; and
WHEREAS, Alyssa worked in IT and cybersecurity. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in speech pathology and went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University with a doctoral degree in neuroscience; and
WHEREAS, Alyssa was also active in the community as an advocate and former board member of the Mary Parrish Center, which provides comprehensive services to survivors of interpersonal and domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, a run from Pettus Road to Old Hickory Boulevard at Mill Creek Greenway was organized on October 21 to honor Alyssa’s memory and had approximately 500 participants; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor the life of this bright young woman.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the life of Alyssa Lokits.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
