WHEREAS, five athletes with ties to Nashville and Davidson County achieved a pinnacle of sport by qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris; and

WHEREAS, these men and women - Gretchen Walsh, Lily Williams, Veronica Fraley, Alex Walsh, and Walker Zimmerman - each successfully competed in the games represented Team USA with valor; and

WHEREAS, Nashville native and swimmer Gretchen Walsh won her first gold medal of the Summer Olympics at the 4-by-100 mixed medley relay, where she swam the 100-meter butterfly and set a new world record as part of a group of four American men and women; and

WHEREAS, Gretchen Walsh received a second gold medal in the women's 4-by-100-meter medley relay, where she also swam the 100-meter butterfly as part of a four-person American squad; and

WHEREAS, Gretchen Walsh finished the Summer Olympics with four medals, including a silver medal for the 100-meter butterfly and a silver medal for the 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay, and competed in the finals of the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle events; and

WHEREAS, Gretchen Walsh's journey to the Paris games included the setting of a new world record of 55.18 seconds in the 100-meter butterfly event; and

WHEREAS, Vanderbilt University alumna Lily Williams also won a gold medal as part of the women's team pursuit cycling event, becoming the first Vanderbilt alumna to win a medal at the Olympic games; and

WHEREAS, Vanderbilt student-athlete Veronica Fraley competed in the discus throwing event for Team USA, finishing 13th in the qualifying round; and

WHEREAS, Nashville native and swimmer Alex Walsh qualified for the finals of the women's 200-meter individual medley; and

WHEREAS, Nashville Soccer Club defender Walker Zimmerman was selected for the U.S. Olympic Men's Soccer team and scored a goal in the squad's win over New Ze...
