A resolution to honor and commend Metro Nashville Public Schools on being recognized as a national leader in post-pandemic academic recovery.

WHEREAS, Metro Nashville Public Schools (“MNPS”) has distinguished themselves as national leaders in the academic success of their students; and
WHEREAS, Metro Nashville Public Schools was recently highlighted in the Education Recovery Scorecard, a national study of post-pandemic academic recovery, as a result of its intentional efforts to accelerate learning progress and the strong academic outcomes its educators and students have achieved; and
WHEREAS, the Education Recovery Scorecard is a national report conducted by a collaboration of the Educational Opportunity Project at Stanford University, the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University, and Stanford Center for Education Policy Analysis; and
WHEREAS, one of just two large urban districts that ranked in the Top 10 in both math and reading, Metro Nashville Public Schools was ranked third in math growth and sixth in reading growth from among the top 100 districts from 2022 to 2023; and
WHEREAS, among the key strategies utilized by Metro Nashville Public Schools that drew praise in the report included implementing strong, evidence-based curricula in reading and math, leadership development for principals to ensure that they have what they need to be strong instructional leaders, wraparound supports such as no-cost breakfast and lunch for all students, advocacy centers and Peace Centers for emotionally distressed students, outreach programs such as Navigators, and summer and weekend learning opportunities; and
WHEREAS, working to address the needs of its students and the community, Metro Nashville Public Schools has utilized high-dosage tutoring through its Accelerating Scholars program, launched MNPS Family University to enhance its family and community engagement, and expanded its Community Achieves program; and
WHEREAS, this national acclaim comes on top of Metro Nashville Public Schools' recognition last year as a Level 5 TVAAS school district for the second consecutive year thanks to the improved academic success of its students; and
WHEREAS, it is highly appropriate that the Metropolitan Council applaud and recognize the outstanding commitment to excellence in education exhibited by Director of Schools Dr. Adrienne Battle and the administration, teachers, and students of Metro Nashville Public Schools.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring and commending the administration, educators, and students of Metro Nashville Public Schools on its recognition as a national leader in post-pandemic academic recovery.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
