A resolution recognizing June 2025 as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder, tragically robs individuals of their memories and leads to progressive mental and physical impairments; and
WHEREAS, there are no known treatments to prevent or cure Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, more than 7 million people, aged 65 and over, are living with Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States; and
WHEREAS, according to the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2025 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures, the costs of caring for those living with Alzheimer’s is projected to reach $384 billion in 2025, with over 12 million caregivers providing unpaid care; and
WHEREAS, in Tennessee, nearly 386,000 family members and friends care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, providing 675,000,000 hours of unpaid care valued at $13.2 billion dollars; and
WHEREAS, Nashville and Davidson County recognize the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association in accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support; and
WHEREAS, the Alzheimer’s Association has continued its work to increase awareness, raise funds, and advance public policy to fight Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; and
WHEREAS, these efforts have thereby improved the quality of human life for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to honor the individuals, families, friends, and caregivers who are dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and the researchers who are seeking a cure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing June 2025, as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month in Nashville and Davidson County.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
