A resolution honoring Chief John Taylor, Jr for his 35 years of service with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

WHEREAS, on July 1, 2021, Chief Warrant Officer John Taylor Jr. will retire from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) after 35 years of service; and
WHEREAS, Chief Taylor, a native Nashvillian, is a graduate of Battle Ground Academy and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), where he received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and his associate degree in Law Enforcement. He also attended Nashville School of Law and completed graduate work at Tennessee State University as well as MTSU; and
WHEREAS, since joining the DCSO in 1986, Chief Taylor has worked in nearly all areas, including jail facilities, Civil Warrants Division, Director of Correctional Services Division, and Administration; and
WHEREAS, in 2002, Chief Taylor was appointed as the agency’s first Chief of Staff overseeing the Civil Warrants Division, Correctional Services Division, Fleet Division, Community Outreach/Community Relations and SAAFE programs; and
WHEREAS, most recently he served as Chief Warrant Officer as well as the agency’s State Legislative and Metro Council Liaison and as a member of the Domestic Violence Death Review Team. He also served as a former President of the Tennessee Warrant Officer’s Association; and
WHEREAS, Chief Taylor’s civic affiliations include the Old Hickory Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Donelson Hermitage where he served on the Board of Directors. He is a founding member of the Donelson Hermitage Evening Exchange Club where he served on the Board of Directors. His other board participation includes the Fifty Forward and Exchange Club Family Center. He also served as a former President of both the Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce and the Harborview Homeowners’ Association; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Chief Taylor for his 35 years of service with the DCSO and congratulates him on his retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record honoring Chief John Taylor Jr for his thirty-five years of service and dedication to Nashville and Davidson County.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
