WHEREAS, March 31 is internationally recognized as Transgender Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to celebrating the lives, achievements, and contributions of transgender and non-binary people while raising awareness of the ongoing struggles they face; and

WHEREAS, transgender and non-binary individuals have made immeasurable contributions to our communities, our culture, and our progress as a society, despite facing disproportionate levels of discrimination, violence, and systemic barriers to equality; and

WHEREAS, visibility is a vital step toward fostering understanding, breaking down stereotypes, and combating the ignorance and misinformation that often fuel transphobia; and

WHEREAS, representation in government, media, workplaces, and all facets of society empowers transgender individuals to live authentically and reminds young trans people that they are seen, valued, and have a future filled with possibility; and

WHEREAS, standing with the transgender community is not just an act of solidarity but a fundamental commitment to justice, human dignity, and the belief that every person deserves to live free from fear, discrimination, and violence; and

WHEREAS, in the face of increasing attacks on transgender rights, it is more critical than ever to uplift trans voices, affirm trans identities, and fight for policies that protect and support transgender people in all aspects of life, including healthcare, employment, housing, and education; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County reaffirms its dedication to inclusivity, equality, and respect for all individuals, regardless of gender identity or expression, and stands against all forms of hate and discrimination.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County does hereby recognize March 31, 2025, as Transgender Day of Visibility in the Nashville and Davidson County and encourages all residents, businesses, and organizations to join in celebrating and uplifting the transgender community, fostering a culture of acceptance, and advocating for a future where all people, regardless of gender identity, are treated with dignity, respect, and equality.

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
