WHEREAS, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at approximately 11:11am, a deadly shooting was carried out by a student inside the cafeteria of Antioch High School; and
WHEREAS, 16-year-old Josseline Dayana Corea Escalante was tragically killed in the shooting and another student was injured; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council mourns the loss of Josseline Dayana Corea Escalante, who is remembered as a loving sister and daughter and a diligent student who loved playing soccer. She had dreams of becoming a doctor and making the world a better place. She touched the lives of her teachers and friends and left a lasting message to us all - "Always be brave. Do all things in love"; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council grieves with the students, faculty, staff, and families of Antioch High who have experienced an unthinkable tragedy, losing two members of their community and suffering an unimaginable trauma; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council recognizes the strength and resiliency of the Antioch community in the wake of this tragedy; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council calls on all residents of Nashville and Davidson County to come together in support of Antioch High and the Antioch community after this devastating tragedy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as expressing its sincere condolences to the family of Josseline Dayana Corea Escalante and honoring her memory as a dedicated student and a young woman known for her kindness, intelligence, and joy.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council further goes on record as expressing support for the Antioch High School community after the deadly shooting that occurred on January 22, 2025.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
