WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a grant in an amount not to exceed $352,425.00 with no cash match required to the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the General Sessions Court, to implement a DUI Court to serve participants convicted of a misdemeanor DUI offense; and, 

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant be accepted.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     That the Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Program grant by and between the U. S. Department of Justice, in an amount not to exceed $352,425.00, to the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the General Sessions Court, to implement a DUI Court to serve participants convicted of a misdemeanor DUI offense, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same. 

Section 2.                     That the amount of this grant be appropriated to the General Sessions Court, based on the revenues estimated to be received and any match to be applied.

Section 3.                     That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution accepts an Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Program grant in an amount not to exceed $352,425, from the U.S. Department of Justice to the General Sessions Court. The grant will be used to implement a DUI Court to serve participants convicted of a misdemeanor DUI offense. No local cash match is required. The performance period begins October 1, 2021 and ends September 30, 2025.

 

This funding will be used to supplement drug testing costs, operation costs, community building events, family focused support, bus passes, emergency needs following release from jail, rent support, therapy, medications and treatment services as clinically assessed.
