A resolution recognizing the 25th anniversary of Robert’s Western World.

body

WHEREAS, on August 5, Broadway mainstay Robert’s Western World will celebrate their 25th anniversary with JesseLee Jones and “a big ol’ honky tonk party” at the 400 block of Broadway; and

WHEREAS, located on Lower Broadway in the famous historic district of downtown Nashville, Robert’s Western World is Nashville’s home of traditional country music; and

WHEREAS, like many buildings on Broadway, the building that is now home to Robert’s is steeped in history and was once used as a warehouse, an office space for river merchants, and served as the home of Sho-Bud Steel Guitar Company from the late 1950s to the early 1980s; and

WHEREAS, two of the greatest steel guitar players in history, Shot Jackson and Buddy Emmons, manufactured and sold some of the best steel guitars and musical instruments ever made at Sho-Bud Steel Guitar Company. The duo also manufactured Dobro-style guitars and other unique instruments including custom steel guitars for popular bands such as The Monkees, Yes, and Poco; and

WHEREAS, in 1980, the rights and manufacturing of Sho-Bud Steel Guitar Company was purchased by Gretch Guitars, with Shot Jackson remaining there but renaming the business to Shot Jackson’s Guitar & Service Center; and

WHEREAS, when Lower Broadway fell on hard times during the 1980’s, 416B Broadway was home to Lynn’s Liquor Store before Robert Wayne Moore opened Rhinestone Western Wear in the early 1990s to sell western boots and apparel; and

WHEREAS, since Robert had years of experience in the honky tonk business, he soon decided to add a jukebox, beer, and cigarettes in the store. Shortly thereafter, live solo entertainers and a grill replaced the jukebox to much success; and

WHEREAS, by 1992, Robert changed the name from Rhinestone Western Wear to Robert’s 3 Doors Down, and later, Robert’s Western Wear Bar & Night Club; and

WHEREAS, in light of increasing popularity and international recognition, the business eventually became what it is known as today, Robert’s Western World; and

WHEREAS, in 1999, Robert Moore passed the business to JesseLee Jones, who along with his band “Brazilbilly”, had been Robert’s house band since 1995; and

WHEREAS, JesseLee and Brazilbilly is the longest running house band in downtown Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Robert’s Western World is the home of “The Recession Special”, a fried bologna sandwich piled high, served with chips, a Moon Pie, and an ice cold PBR, all for only six dollars; and

WHEREAS, now run by JesseLee and wife, Emily Ann, Robert’s Western World proudly protects the music that made “Music City”; and

WHEREAS, Robert’s Western World has become a Nashville institution, attracting both locals and tourists to see their famous boot wall and hear JesseLee Jones and Brazilbilly, along with many other talented musicians and the occasional surprise celebrity musician; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and celebrate the 25th anniversary of Robert’s Western World and wish them many more years of music, slinging bologna sandwiches, and success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 25th anniversary of Robert’s Western World.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
