A resolution honoring the service of Mina Johnson, the outgoing President of Sister Cities of Nashville.

WHEREAS, Sister Cities of Nashville is guided by its mission that Sister Cities of Nashville connects the people of Nashville to people of the world, promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation - one person, one community at a time; and
WHEREAS, Mina Johnson has served with distinction as President of Sister Cities of Nashville from January 2023 to January 2026, providing thoughtful, inclusive, and visionary leadership throughout her tenure; and
WHEREAS, Mina Johnson has consistently recognized the vital role that cities play in international exchange, understanding that local communities are at the forefront of global diplomacy and that meaningful connections between people strengthen peace and cooperation worldwide; and
WHEREAS, she has been a steadfast advocate for Nashville and Davidson County’s involvement in international engagement, working to ensure the city remains a welcoming place where anyone, from anywhere, can find a sense of belonging and home; and
WHEREAS, Mina Johnson championed grassroots diplomacy by expanding access to international experiences, demonstrating exceptional dedication to student scholarship programming by reaching out to neighborhoods, schools, and families traditionally unable to access or participate in international travel; and
WHEREAS, through her leadership, Sister Cities of Nashville advanced equity and inclusion by removing barriers to participation and opening pathways for students and families to experience the transformative power of cultural exchange; and
WHEREAS, Mina Johnson ensured that all ten Sister City partnerships were represented, supported, and promoted throughout the Nashville community, offering citizens opportunities to engage in a diverse array of cultural programming, educational experiences, and moments of learning and enlightenment; and
WHEREAS, her leadership strengthened Nashville and Davidson County’s reputation as a globally connected city, fostering mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation through arts, education, dialogue, and person-to-person exchange; and
WHEREAS, Mina Johnson served with integrity as an ambassador for both Sister Cities of Nashville and the City of Nashville, advancing diplomacy through collaboration, compassion, and shared humanity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mina Johnson for her service to Sister Cities of Nashville, extending its heartfelt thanks and best wishes to her, and celebrating her legacy of service and her commitment to ensuring Nashville and Davidson County remain welcoming and globally engaged for generations to come.
Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
