A resolution recognizing the 20th anniversary of Meet Us at the Bridge.

WHEREAS, the Nashville Coalition Against Domestic Violence will recognize and remember victims of domestic violence at the 20th annual Meet Us at the Bridge on October 5, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Meet Us at the Bridge is an annual ceremony to honor those Nashvillians who have lost their lives to domestic violence in the past year, as the families of those victims drop purple roses from the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge; and
WHEREAS, the ceremony has honored 191 women, children, and men since it first began in October 2005; and
WHEREAS, the families of ten victims from the past year will recognize their loved ones at this year’s remembrance; and
WHEREAS, the annual event, originated by Jean Crowe, also recognizes individuals and groups who combat domestic violence in their communities, including local law enforcement public officials, community organizations, and domestic violence survivors; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Coalition Against Domestic Violence has served Nashville and Davidson County for more than 32 years, sponsoring domestic violence trainings and community engagement events, assisting victims by providing a network for agencies, and advocating access to other service providers; and
WHEREAS, Meet Us at the Bridge serves as a poignant remembrance of domestic violence victims and provides a call to action to support local efforts to combat these issues during Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to recognize the Meet Us at the Bridge ceremony in its 20th year and commend the Nashville Coalition Against Domestic Violence for its decades of service of Nashville and Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Meet Us at the Bridge event in its 20th year.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
