A resolution recognizing September 15 through October 15, 2025, as Hispanic Heritage Month in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, September 15 through October 15 has been designated as Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the many contributions of Hispanic Americans to the economic, cultural, and social development of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the observance began in 1968 as “Hispanic Heritage Week” under President Lyndon Johnson and was later expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a full 30-day period, beginning September 15 and ending October 15; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Americans have long played vital roles across the labor force and within civic life, serving as elected officials, business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals, and homemakers, providing leadership, guidance, and support for the values that strengthen our communities; and

WHEREAS, here in Nashville, Hispanic residents of diverse nationalities have distinguished themselves as leaders and role models across all professions, building businesses, creating jobs, paying wages, and strengthening neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Americans serve with distinction in all branches of the Armed Forces and have bravely fought in every war in the history of the United States; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic-owned businesses represent one of the fastest-growing segments of small businesses in the United States, expanding at more than 15 times the national average, and their successes continue to inspire families, employees, and communities alike; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Americans, despite the many risks and personal sacrifices they encounter, continue to be inspirations to their families and to the community; and their successes provide inspiring stories to emulate; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to honor the many accomplishments and contributions made by members of the Hispanic community, and to encourage all residents to celebrate and support the people and businesses that make Nashville a unique and wonderful city.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing September 15 to October 15, 2025, as Hispanic Heritage Month in Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
