A resolution recognizing May 2024 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, since 1992, the month of May has been designated under federal law to recognize the contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (“AANHPI”) in our nation’s history; and
WHEREAS, the AANHPI communities are inherently diverse and composed of more than 45 distinct ethnicities and more than 100 language dialects; and
WHEREAS, more than 28,000 Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders call Nashville and Davidson County home; and
WHEREAS, AANHPI citizens have a noted history of public service in Nashville, Davidson County, and the State of Tennessee, with representation on the Metropolitan Council, various boards and commissions, and the Tennessee General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the contributions of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities have benefitted Nashville and Davidson County, whether through business, culture, education, entertainment, and service; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County recognize Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honor these communities for their essential roles locally and across the country.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing May 2024 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Nashville and Davidson County.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
