A resolution approving an application for a Project Diabetes grant from the Tennessee Department of Health to the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the Nashville Farmers’ Market, to create food and beverage environments that ensure healthy food and beverage options are an easy choice.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Health is accepting applications for a Project Diabetes grant, with an award of $81,100.00 with no cash match required; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     That the application for a Project Diabetes grant, with an award of $81,100.00, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Nashville Farmers’ Market is authorized to submit said application to the Tennessee Department of Health.

Section 2.                     That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution approves an application for a Project Diabetes grant from the Tennessee Department of Health to the Nashville Farmers’ Market. If approved, the award would be $81,100 with no local cash match required. The funds would be used to create food and beverage environments that ensure healthy food and beverage options are an easy choice. The Farmers’ Market will use the grant to fund its SNAP dollar doubling program which helps individual facing food insecurity make healthy grocery choices.
