WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of Justice is accepting applications for a DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction Grant with an award of $250,000.00 and a required match of $24,325.00; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     That the Metropolitan Government’s grant application for a DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction Grant, with an award of $250,000.00, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is authorized to submit said application to the United States Department of Justice.

Section 2.                     That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

The application requests a grant of $250,000, with a required local cash match of $24,325. The application proposes to use the funds to outsource sexual assault kits to private vendors for forensic case sample analysis and to purchase TrueAllele parallel processors.
