A Resolution recognizing Stand Up Nashville’s new Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute.

Body

WHEREAS, Stand Up Nashville is an organization made up of community and union organizers, churches, neighborhood leaders, hard-working families and individuals focusing on helping Nashville become a more equitable place; and

WHEREAS, in furtherance of this goal, Stand Up Nashville has recently launched a Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute with the purpose of training underrepresented community members to serve on boards and commissions with the explicit goal of advancing equitable policies; and

WHEREAS, the goal of this program is to train individuals from Black, Brown, Immigrant, and working-class community to develop and hone skills essential to serving on a board or commission; and

WHEREAS, this six-month training includes programming about economic development, employment, housing, land use, and transit through an intersectional lens, as well as skills such as power mapping, “inside/outside” strategy, Robert’s Rules of Order, and more; and

WHEREAS, applications for the inaugural class were submitted last year with the program activities launching in January 2021. This first class will graduate from the program in July 2021; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the efforts of Stand Up Nashville in training members of the community from underrepresented groups, thereby ensuring qualified board and commission candidates from all backgrounds.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Stand Up Nashville’s new Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
