WHEREAS, on November 6, 2025, John Early Museum Magnet Middle School celebrated its 90th anniversary with an exhibition detailing the history of the school; and
WHEREAS, the school was named for Davidson County businessman, Board of Education Chair, and lifelong community advocate John Early; and
WHEREAS, the school was housed in the old Seifried Seminary School, which was periodically expanded until it became obvious that more space was needed; and
WHEREAS, in 2002, John Early School moved to its current home and transitioned from an elementary school to a middle school, becoming John Early Museum Magnet Middle School. The modernized building provides a crucial educational resource for North Nashville; and
WHEREAS, as a Paideia school, John Early Museum Magnet Middle School focused on educating the entire person to create a well-rounded scholar, the school focused on humanities as a part of a well-rounded education; and
WHEREAS, John Early Museum Magnet Middle School expanded its museum magnet mission in 2013. With generous donations from the Scarritt Bennett Center, the school became a museum themselves displaying many artifacts throughout the school and in a dedicated exhibit space; and
WHEREAS, in its 90th year, the school earned a level 5 rating from the Tennessee Value Added Assessment System, indicating academic growth beyond expectations; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to celebrate the scholars, faculty, and staff of John Early Museum Magnet Middle School for 90 years of service to Nashville and Davidson County.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record honoring John Early Museum Magnet School for 90 years of education in Nashville and Davidson County.
