WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Animal Care and Control Commission ("MACC Commission") was codified pursuant to Ordinance No. BL2025-1061; and
WHEREAS, the MAAC Commission is meant to serve as an advisory entity and as a liaison between MACC, the Metropolitan Board of Health, and the community, enhancing public engagement, strengthening Departmental operations in service to residents and animals of Nashville and Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, minor updates to this section of the Metropolitan Code of Laws are necessary to ensure that the MACC Commission functions at its highest potential.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That subsection 2.114.020(A) of the Metropolitan Code of Laws shall be deleted in its entirety and replaced with the following:
A. The commission shall be composed of seven voting members. Two members shall be representatives of local nonprofit organizations dedicated to animal welfare appointed by the mayor. One member shall be a veterinarian, preferably with experience in an animal shelter, appointed by the mayor. One member shall be a representative of a local nonprofit organization that operates an animal care facility, appointed by the mayor. For the purposes of this section, an animal care facility shall mean a facility whose primary focus is animal support services, such as medical care, advocacy, or providing food to animals. One member shall be a representative of a local nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare elected by the metropolitan council. Two members at large shall be elected by the metropolitan council. Members appointed by the mayor shall be confirmed by the metropolitan council.
