WHEREAS, childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States, with thousands of children and their families affected each year; and

WHEREAS approximately 15,780 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year in the United States, and tragically, about 1,790 children succumb to this disease annually; and

WHEREAS, September is recognized nationally as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor and remember the children and families affected by this disease, as well as to raise awareness and encourage funding for research and treatment; and

WHEREAS, Nashville, Tennessee, is a city that values the health and well-being of all its residents, particularly its youngest and most vulnerable; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that we increase public knowledge and understanding of childhood cancer, promote early detection and diagnosis, and support efforts to improve treatments and find a cure; and

WHEREAS, the month of September provides an opportunity for our community to come together in support of children battling cancer, their families, and the healthcare professionals and researchers dedicated to finding a cure; and

WHEREAS, we recognize the strength, courage, and resilience of all children fighting cancer, including Zakary Lee Milton, the beloved grandson of Councilmember Olivia Hill, whose journey with this disease has inspired many in our community to stand together in the fight against childhood cancer.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
