WHEREAS, in 1999, Valerie Wynn, Whitney Blanton, and Grace Guerra were working as victim advocates in Nashville when they began exploring the idea of opening a "one stop" center where domestic violence survivors could receive all the services they need from one central location; and

WHEREAS, they decided to name the center after Mary Parrish, a domestic violence survivor and the mother-in-law of Valerie Wynn; and

WHEREAS, the Mary Parrish Center was founded in 2002 to provide no-cost, comprehensive services to survivors of interpersonal violence, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, talking, and human trafficking; and

WHEREAS, the Mary Parrish Center spent its first seven years assisting victims with the order of protection process and providing support for their next steps; and

WHERAS, in 2009, the Mary Parrish Center began a program dedicated to providing transitional housing. The transition housing program provides support services including case management, clinical therapy, crisis intervention, economic empowerment, enrichment activities, financial assistance, housing advocacy, and workforce development; and

WHEREAS, in 2019, the Mary Parrish Center was granted funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to develop two new programs. The Rapid Rehousing Program and the Coordinated Entry Process developed by the Mary Parrish Center are specific to survivors of interpersonal violence; and

WHEREAS, the Mary Parrish Center celebrated its 20th anniversary in April 2023 with a large celebration for residents, partners, supporters, board members, and staff from its 20 years in operation; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the 20th anniversary of the Mary Parrish Center.
