WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is committed to fostering innovative urban design and sustainable transportation solutions; and,
WHEREAS, NACTO is an association of 100 major North American cites and transit agencies formed to exchange transportation ideas, insights, and practices, and cooperatively approach national transportation issues; and,
WHEREAS, the NACTO Designing Cities Conference is a prestigious event that gathers city leaders, policymakers, and professionals to discuss and share best practices in city design and transportation; and,
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government, by and through the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT), wishes for Nashville to be the host city for the 2027 Designing Cities Conference; and,
WHEREAS, NACTO has approved NDOT's request to submit an application for the 2027 conference during NACTO's search for a host city for its 2026 conference; and,
WHEAREAS, if Nashville is selected as the host city for the 2027 conference, NDOT will dedicate staff and resources to planning the conference in collaboration with NACTO, as required by NACTO's request for proposal, attached hereto as Exhibit A, and as indicated in NDOT's application, attached hereto as Exhibit B; and,
WHEREAS, hosting the 2027 conference would provide an unparalleled opportunity to showcase Nashville's advancements and commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable urban environment; and,
WHEREAS, Nashville's strategic location, recent investments in transportation infrastructure, and vibrant cultural scene make it an ideal candidate for hosting this influential conference; and,
