A resolution recognizing May 2026 as Older Americans Month in Nashville and Davidson County and recognizing FiftyForward for its 70th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Older Americans Month was formally recognized as “Senior Citizens Month” in 1963 through a proclamation from President John F. Kennedy; and
WHEREAS, Older Americans Month serves as a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons to our country; and
WHEREAS, this month, FiftyForward celebrated 70 years of championing those ages 50 and older; and
WHEREAS, FiftyForward was founded in 1956 as a program for active seniors at the FiftyForward Knowles Center and has become the premier nonprofit serving older adults in Middle Tennessee, impacting over 20,000 seniors, children, and families; and
WHEREAS, FiftyForward operates through the values of service, kindness, compassion, integrity, connection, and community, providing many essential services for older adults in Tennessee, where the population will be 25 percent older adults by 2030; and
WHEREAS, FiftyForward has uplifted older adults and their families for decades, providing resources, connection to the arts, empowerment, and education to both older adults and the communities they enrich across the state; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council celebrate Older Americans by recognizing Older Americans Month and recognize FiftyForward’s 70 years of service to Nashville and Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record recognize May 2026 as Older Americans Month in Nashville and Davidson County and recognizing Fifty Forward for their 70th anniversary.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
