A resolution recognizing April 26, 2025, as Lesbian Day of Visibility in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Lesbian Day of Visibility is an annual observance on April 26 that celebrates lesbians and their contributions to society; and

WHEREAS, Lesbian Day of Visibility was established in 1990 to build awareness of lesbian identities and sociopolitical capital, advocate for important issues, and celebrate the community at large; and

WHEREAS, this event provides an opportunity to commemorate the work and achievements of LGBTQIA women and non-binary people in Nashville, and celebrate the strength and resilience of the community in the face of discrimination and prejudice; and

WHEREAS, Nashvillians have worked to increasingly create a culture of acceptance and inclusion, engage in public service, and fight to preserve and expand the rights of LGBTQIA women and non-binary people in the community as a whole; and

WHEREAS, Lesbian Day of Visibility is an important day to celebrate the diversity, strength, and resilience of the lesbian community and a reminder that we must continue to work towards achieving true equality for all; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council endeavors to make Nashville a city that is welcoming and inclusive of everyone, including LGBTQIA women and non-binary people.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing April 26, 2025, as Lesbian Day of Visibility in Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
