A resolution recognizing September 21 through 27, 2024, as United Against Hate Week.

body
WHEREAS, United Against Hate was created by civic leaders in direct response to the sharp rise in expressions of hate in our communities; and

WHEREAS, a week of action is planned for September 21 through 27, 2024, where communities across the country will plan events around actions to stand up against hate; and

WHEREAS, United Against Hate Week began as a local effort in 2018 and has grown statewide in California and Nevada and to cities including Providence, RI, Pittsburgh, PA, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Charlottesville, VA, Bowling Green, OH, and many more; and

WHEREAS, United Against Hate Week encourages participants to post signs, host events, share stories, attend rallies, and connect with schools and neighborhood civic institutions. Even small events help to unit each community to defeat hate in all communities; and

WHEREAS, United Against Hate Week is a call for seven days of local civic action by people in every community to stop the hate and implicit biases that are a dangerous threat to the safety and civility of our neighborhoods, towns, and cities; and

WHEREAS, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, there will be a countywide United Against Hate Day of Action to send the message that hate has no place in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize United Against Hate Week.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Cou...
