An ordinance authorizing the renaming of South Street to "King Hollands Avenue". (Proposal Number 2025M-003SR-001).

WHEREAS, applicant Council Member At Large Zulfat Suara has requested that South Street be renamed to "King Hollands Avenue"; and,
WHEREAS, King Hollands was a leader and participant in the Nashville Student Movement, an organization that challenged racial segregation in Nashville; and,
WHEREAS, as an active community leader, Mr. Hollands helped found and lead the Nashville Civil Rights Veterans Association to preserve the historical legacy of the Nashville Student Movement; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Hollands sought to preserve African American history in Nashville and worked to protect and care for the Edgehill neighborhood where he grew up; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed request to rename South Street and a short biography for King Hollands has been submitted to and approved by the Metropolitan Planning Commission, and other relevant agencies of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, in accordance with Metropolitan Code ? 13.08.015.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Geographic Information Systems Street and Alley Centerline Layer for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, be and is hereby amended, as follows:
South Street, from 8th Avenue South to Music Square West, shall be named "King Hollands Avenue", as depicted on the maps attached hereto and incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The Director of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure be and hereby is authorized and directed, upon the enactment and approval of this ordinance, to cause said change to be made on said map as set out in Section 1 of this ordinance, and to make notation thereon of reference to the date of passage and approval of this amendatory ordinance.
