WHEREAS, Jason Rodrick Gooch was born on July 13, 1980, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Deitra Ann Gregory Gooch and James Richard Gooch, graduated from Whites Creek High School, and established a career marked by public service and community involvement; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gooch worked for 22 years with FedEx Ground, beginning as a package handler in 2004 and advancing to the position of Operations Manager; and
WHEREAS, for 15 years, Mr. Gooch served as a Recreational Leader with Metropolitan Department of Parks and Recreation at Hartman Park, coaching, mentoring, and instructing youth within after school and summer programs and maintaining contact with participants through their pursuit of higher education; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gooch brought members of the community together through athletics by organizing local basketball leagues and pickup games for high school students, young adults, and peers across Nashville and Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gooch was married on May 7, 2015, to Jennifer D. Gooch, sharing a blended family with five daughters—Michelle, Ja’Mya, Jordon, Jade, and Jenae—and leaving a sustained record of service to his family and city; and
WHEREAS, after his untimely passage on August 31, 2026, Mr. Gooch was remembered for his dedication to his family and his generosity with his time, knowledge, and heart; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor Jason Rodrick Gooch and his ability to create a welcoming space for the people around him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the life of Jason Rodrick Gooch and his meaningful contributions to Nashville and Davidson County.
