WHEREAS, Section 7-3-314 of the Tennessee Code Annotated states that metropolitan forms of government may provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in accordance with the guidelines of the Metropolitan Government; and,

WHEREAS, Section 5.04.070 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that the Council may, by Resolution, appropriate funds for the financial aid of nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council passed Resolution No. RS2023-2282, pursuant to which the Metropolitan Government appropriated a total of $2,938,965.00 from the Nashville Public Library to various non-profit organizations for the provision of free and high-quality afterschool programs through the Library’s Nashville After Zone Alliance (“NAZA”) program; and,

WHEREAS, Resolution No. RS2023-2282 authorized the Metropolitan Government to enter into grant contracts with certain non-profit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, pursuant to BL2023-1867 additional funds are available to increase the individual grant amounts to expand free and high-quality afterschool and summer programming through the Library’s NAZA program; and,

WHEREAS, in accordance with the terms of the grant contracts, amendments to the grant contract must be in writing and passed by resolution by the Metropolitan Council; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that these funds be appropriated to these nonprofit organizations.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     There is hereby appropriated Five Hundred Seventy-Six Thousand Three Hundred Forty-Five dollars ($576,345.00) from the Public Library to nonprofit organizations as follows:

                     

                     $114,885.00 to Aspiring Youth Enrichment Services;

                     $14,210.00 to Backfield in Motion; 

                     $30,710.00 to Beech Creek Ministries;

                     $10,390.00 to Bethlehem Centers of Nashville; 

                     $84,010.00 to Black Lemonade;

                     $41,255.00 to Church on the Rock; 

                     $35,230.00 to DYMON in the Rough;

                     $54,220.00 to Global Outreach Developments International; 

                     $48,650.00 to Martha O-Bryan Center;

                     $13,550.00 to Moves and Grooves, Inc.; 

                     $7,318.00 to Nashville International Center for Empowerment;

                     $57,233.00 to Nations Ministry Center; 

                     $2,059.00 to Why We Can’t Wait, Inc.;

                     $34,625.00 to YMCA of Middle Tennessee;

                     $28,000.00 to Youth Journeyz.

Section 2.                       The Metropolitan Government is hereby authorized to amend the grant contracts,  attached hereto and incorporated herein, with the nonprofit organizations listed in Section 1 for the amounts provided herein and the purposes stated.  Such contracts shall specify the terms and conditions under which the grant funds are to be spent.

Section 3                     That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution amends grant contracts with 15 non-profit organizations that provide free and high-quality afterschool programming through Nashville Public Library’s Nashville After Zone Alliance (“NAZA”) program. The original grant contracts, approved by RS2023-2282, appropriated a total of $2,938,965 to 19 organizations.

 

The amendment under consideration would appropriate an additional $576,345 to be distributed to 15 organizations, as follows:
