Agenda Analysis

Analysis

This resolution approves an application for a National Park Service’s American Battlefield Protection Program (“ABPP”) Land Acquisition Grant to the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the American Battlefield Trust, to partially fund the acquisition of a 2.36-acre tract of land at the Nashville Battlefield.

The grant award would help purchase property located at or near 607 Bass Street and preserve the property as a significant contribution to the Nashville Battlefield and Fort Negley. The grant application seeks an award of $4,128,439.50 with a cash match of $3,000,000.

This resolution is related to the three agreements approved by Ordinance No. BL2023-2012 and amended by Resolution No. RS2024-493. The American Battlefield Trust is currently under contract to purchase the property at 607 Bass Street and convey a conservation easement to the Tennessee Historical Commission. The property would then be transferred to the Metropolitan Government.
