WHEREAS, through the Sister Cities of Nashville program, the City of Magdeburg, Germany, has been a valued Sister City to Nashville and Davidson County (“Nashville”) since 2003, fostering friendship, cultural understanding, and meaningful exchanges between our communities; and

WHEREAS, on December 20, 2024, the people of Magdeburg, Germany, endured a tragic and senseless act during what should have been a season of peace and joy at the beloved Magdeburg Christmas Market; and

WHEREAS, the attack resulted in the loss of innocent lives and numerous injuries and caused deep pain and suffering for families, first responders, and the entire Magdeburg community; and

WHEREAS, Magdeburg and Nashville have long shared a proud and meaningful relationship as Sister Cities, built on mutual respect, cultural exchange, and a deep commitment to peace, friendship, and understanding across borders; and

WHEREAS, on this first anniversary, Nashville continues to stand united with our friends in Magdeburg in mourning those lost, honoring the bravery of those who responded, and renewing our unwavering support for a community that has shown extraordinary resilience; and

WHEREAS, moments like these remind us how meaningful it is to build bridges of friendship across borders, and how the people of Magdeburg-and all who value connection-demonstrate how Sister City relationships help us grow together through empathy, understanding, and shared purpose; and

WHEREAS, Nashville reaffirms its enduring bond with Magdeburg and pledges to continue fostering the spirit of kinship, remembrance, and peace that connects our cities beyond tragedy.
