A resolution recognizing June 2026 as Pride Month in Nashville and Davidson County and affirming the dignity, freedom, and humanity of all people.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County believes that every human being deserves the right to live openly, honestly, safely, and authentically, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and
WHEREAS, Pride Month exists because generations of LGBTQIA+ Americans were told they were not worthy of equality, safety, employment, housing, marriage, military service, or even the simple freedom to exist openly in public, and
WHEREAS, Pride is not about asking for special rights, but about recognizing the equal humanity of every person and ensuring that no child, no parent, no veteran, no neighbor, and no Tennessean is forced to hide who they are simply to feel accepted or safe, and
WHEREAS, Nashville is home to a vibrant LGBTQIA+ community made up of public servants, teachers, healthcare workers, artists, musicians, veterans, business owners, parents, faith leaders, and families who contribute every single day to the success, culture, and heartbeat of this city, and
WHEREAS, many members of the LGBTQIA+ community have endured discrimination, bullying, rejection, violence, and political attacks, yet continue to stand tall with courage, resilience, and love for their communities, and
WHEREAS, supporting Pride does not diminish family values because LGBTQIA+ people are families too. They are daughters and sons, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, grandparents, spouses, coworkers, neighbors, and friends, and
WHEREAS, true freedom does not mean only protecting the people with whom we agree. True freedom means protecting the dignity and rights of every person, especially when it is difficult, unpopular, or politically inconvenient, and
WHEREAS, Nashville has always been strongest when it chooses compassion over cruelty, unity over fear, and courage over silence; and
WHEREAS, hatred has never built a stronger city, fear has never created more freedom, and history has never looked kindly upon those who tried to decide which human beings were worthy of dignity. Because freedom belongs to all of us. Not just some of us.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing June 2026 as Pride Month in Nashville and Davidson County and reaffirms its commitment to equality, dignity, freedom, and opportunity for all people.
Section 2. That the Council encourages all Nashvillians to lead with understanding, humanity, and respect, recognizing that every person deserves the right to exist authentically without fear, shame, or discrimination.
