A resolution recognizing May 2026 as Jewish American Heritage Month in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Jewish American Heritage Month is observed annually in the United States during the month of May to recognize and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and history of Jewish Americans; and

WHEREAS, Jewish Americans have played a vital role in shaping the cultural, economic, scientific, political, and social fabric of the United States since the first Jewish settlers arrived in North America in 1654; and

WHEREAS, the Jewish American community has made significant contributions to the arts, education, medicine, law, business, civil rights, public service, and countless other fields, enriching the nation's diversity and strength; and

WHEREAS, Jewish American Heritage Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the experiences and history of Jewish Americans, to celebrate their enduring legacy, and to confront antisemitism and all forms of hatred and discrimination; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the history and accomplishments of Jewish Americans fosters greater understanding, appreciation, and unity among all people; and

WHEREAS, since the 1800s, Jews have lived, worked, and prospered in Tennessee, growing in numbers to reach approximately 16,000 in Nashville according to the Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville; and

WHEREAS, during May 2026, the Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville and other local partners are planning community-wide events to celebrate the history and contributions of Jewish Americans in Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, Jewish American Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor and celebrate the contributions, culture, and values of Jewish Americans in Nashville and around the United States and to remember that the power lies within each of us to rise together against hate and to see each other as fellow human beings.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing May 2026 as Jewish American Heritage Month.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
