WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission has expressed a commitment to equity in art in Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, according to the Metro Arts Cultural Equity Statement, "Metro Arts believes ALL Nashvillians should be able to participate in a creative life; and that the arts drive a vibrant and equitable community"; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to include this commitment to equity in the purpose of the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission in Chapter 2.112 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Section 2.112.030 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws is amended by adding the following as a new subsection D and redesignating the subsequent subsection accordingly:

D. To promote equity in the arts community;

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This ordinance amends Section 2.112.030 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws, which contains the purpose of the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission. This Section currently provides that the purpose of the Arts Commission is:

"A. To promote the study, participation in and appreciation of the visual, performing and literary arts;
B. To support and participate in the presentation of displays, exhibits, recitals, concerts, lectures and symposia;
C. To cooperate with and assist public and private educational institutions, the media, and other private and governmental entities involved in artistic and cultural promotion;
