A resolution expressing support for the Tennessee General Assembly legislation for an honorary renaming of a portion of Nolensville Pike as "Rick Schwartz Wild Works Way".

WHEREAS, Rick Schwartz is the president and CEO of the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere and has been a dedicated advocate for the world of conservation for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, since lending his expertise to a group of Nashvillians building a local zoo in 1989, he has become the director and primary architect of the Nashville Zoo, building facilities, designing the exhibits, and working extensively with other zoos throughout the country to develop the outstanding collection of species represented at Nashville Zoo; and

WHEREAS, in addition, the Nashville Zoo's Wild Works Global Conservation program supports research, habitat protection, breeding programs, and education initiatives both at the Zoo and around the world; and

WHEREAS, in order to honor his contribution to the Nashville Zoo and the State of Tennessee, as well as the Nashville Zoo's conservation efforts through Wild Works, legislation has been introduced before the Tennessee General Assembly to name a portion of U.S. Highway 41A (Nolensville Pike) beginning at the northern side of the railroad bridge spanning such route immediately north of the entrance to the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere and ending at the intersection of such route with State Route 255 (Harding Place) as "Rick Schwartz Wild Works Way"; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires to express its support for this state legislation that would provide an honorary renaming of a portion of Nolensville Pike in honor of Rick Schwartz and the Wild works Global Conservation program.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
