A resolution recognizing March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual observance on March 31 that honors transgender people and recognizes their contributions to society; and
WHEREAS, Transgender Day of Visibility was first established in 2009 by Rachel Crandall to celebrate the lives of transgender individuals and encourage them to live authentically; and
WHEREAS, Transgender Day of Visibility provides an opportunity to commemorate the work and achievements of transgender Nashvillians and recognize the bravery required to live openly as themselves; and
WHEREAS, Transgender Day of Visibility also allows Nashvillians to recognize the discrimination and violence faced by the transgender community ways that prevent many from being visible in society; and
WHEREAS, despite those barriers, transgender Nashvillians continue to tell their stories, assume increased roles in public service, push for equality on state and local levels, and fight against efforts to limit their voices and access to needed healthcare; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville transgender community provides an irreplaceable benefit to Nashville and Davidson County, and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council wishes to salute the community’s strength, commitment, and remarkable work to secure equal rights of all, regardless of gender identity or expression.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
