A resolution recognizing the opening of the Salvadoran Consulate General’s Office and welcoming the Consulate General of El Salvador to Nashville.

WHEREAS, on March 6, 2023, the Salvadoran Consulate General’s Office in Nashville celebrated its grand opening, with offices opening to the public on March 7, 2023; and
WHEREAS, this is the first permanent Latin American consulate general’s office in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, led by consul general María Marta Orantes, the Nashville office seeks to better serve the 18,000 Salvadorans living in Tennessee and Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, before the opening of this office, the closest Consulate General Office was in Charlotte, North Carolina, over 400 miles away from Nashville; and
WHEREAS, Salvadorans can now request passports, vital records such as birth, marriage, and death records, legal consultations, and more from the offices right here in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, Nashville is also home to the Japanese Consulate General’s Office; and
WHEREAS, the Salvadoran Consulate General’s Office is now open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. at 311 Plus Park Blvd, Suite 110, Nashville, TN 37217; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council extends its warmest welcome Consulate General María Marta Orantes and the Salvadoran Consulate General’s Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the opening of the Salvadoran Consulate General’s Office and welcoming the Consulate General of El Salvador to Nashville.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
