WHEREAS, on March 24, 2023, Darryl K. Jenkins, owner of 6203 Laredo Avenue, discovered that the water had been turned on in the property and it had flooded. Metro Water Services was called and determined that the water meter was not working properly and had flooded the property, causing extensive damage to the home; and,
WHEREAS, after investigation, the Department of Law believes the settlement listed in Section 1 is fair and reasonable and in the best interest of the Metropolitan Government and recommends that the property damage claim of Darryl K. Jenkins be compromised and settled for a total of $21,531.00, and that this amount be paid from the Self-Insured Liability Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1: The Metropolitan Department of Law is authorized to compromise and settle the property damage claim of Darryl K. Jenkins for the sum of $21,531.00, with said amount to be paid from the Self-Insured Liability Fund.
Section 2: This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

On March 24, 2023, the Metropolitan Water and Sewer Department ("MWS") turned on water at an unoccupied house under construction at 6203 Laredo Avenue owned by Darryl Jenkins, flooding the house. After the incident, MWS determined that the water meter was not working properly. The meter needed to be replaced or serviced to prevent this type of incident in the future.
