A resolution honoring the 25th Anniversary of the Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce.

WHEREAS, the Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce (“NBCC”) will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a black tie gala on November 11, 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, the NBCC was founded in 1998 by Rosetta Miller-Perry, the CEO and publisher of The Tennessee Tribune newspaper and Contempora Magazine; and

 

WHEREAS, the NBCC was founded with a mission to empower and encourage prosperity for Nashville’s African American businesses by connecting businesses and business professionals with worthwhile partnerships that lead to economic advancement; developing businesses that are successful, sustainable, and scalable; providing businesses with economic opportunities that allow them to create jobs and wealth; and leading on policy initiatives that cultivate an economic environment for businesses to thrive; and

 

WHEREAS, the NBCC was originally established as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and was rechartered in 2003 as a 501(c)(4) organization, which allows the NBCC to function as a civic association with members who support its mission and goals; and

 

WHEREAS, the NBCC seeks to be a resource for African-American businesses in the Nashville area to connect, learn, grow, and prosper; and

 

WHEREAS, today, the NBCC is comprised of over 250 members including corporations, small to medium businesses, nonprofit organizations, and individuals; and

 

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor and recognize 25 years of the NBCC promoting, education, and advancing the Black business communities of Nashville.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the 25th Anniversary of the Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce.

 

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
