WHEREAS, the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs, is accepting applications for a Hot Spot VCIF TCCRP grant with an award of $675,000 with no cash match required to utilize funding for the formation of the PAL program to help build strong community relations and facilitate early intervention in the lives of at risk youths and to purchase equipment and increase staffing to better prepare officers to respond to violent crime incidents; and,     

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     That the Metropolitan Government’s application for a Hot Spot Violent Crime Intervention Fund (VCIF) Targeted Community Crime Reduction Project (TCCRP) grant with an award of $675,000, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is authorized to submit said application to the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs.

Section 2.                     That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution approves an application for a Hot Spot Violent Crime Intervention Fund Targeted Community Crime Reduction Project grant from the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (“MNPD”). The grant award is not to exceed $675,000 with no cash match required. If awarded, the grant would fund the formation of the Nashville Police Activities League (“PAL”) program, purchase equipment and increase staffing. The grant would also provide for salary reimbursement of the Project Coordinator of the grant that is currently employed by MNPD.

 

This grant application approval is related to RS2023-55, which accepts the grant.
