A resolution requesting Metro Nashville Public Schools use recently appropriated funding to purchase ballistic film and radios to improve school safety.

WHEREAS, the safety of students while at school in Nashville and Davidson County is of the utmost importance; and
WHEREAS, in order to improve student safety at Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (“MNPS”), MNPS has requested additional funding; and
WHEREAS, MNPD requested $5,000,000 for shatter resistant protection on glass in school buildings and $1,500,000 for building upgrades to ensure communication with the Metro Nashville Police Department (“MNPD”) radio system; and
WHEREAS, Substitute Resolution No. RS2023-2247, adopted by the Council on June 20, 2023, appropriated $6,500,000 for this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council intends for this additional funding to be used to provide shatter resistant glass in public schools and building upgrades related to radio system communication with MNPD.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as requesting that Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools use the funds recently appropriated pursuant to Substitute Resolution No. RS2023-2247 as follows: $5,000,000 to be used to purchase shatter resistant protection for glass in school buildings and $1,500,000 to be used for building upgrades to ensure communication with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department radio system.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
