WHEREAS, it is to the mutual benefit of Meharry Medical College and the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the Metropolitan Board of Health, to train college students as peer health educators to create service- oriented resources to impact COVID-19 disparities and related social determinates of health; and,
WHEREAS, Meharry Medical College and the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the Metropolitan Board of Health, have entered into a grant contract, attached hereto and incorporated herein, to train college students as peer health educators to create service- oriented resources to impact COVID-19 disparities and related social determinates of health; and,
WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant contract be approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the grant contract between Meharry Medical College and the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the Metropolitan Board of Health, to train college students as peer health educators to create service- oriented resources to impact COVID-19 disparities and related social determinates of health, attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.
Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Analysis
This resolution approves a grant contract between the Metropolitan Board of Health and Meharry Medical College. Pursuant to the terms of the grant agreement, Meharry will recruit 30 students to serve as health ambassadors and two public health masters students to guide student ambassadors. The student health ambassadors would be trained as peer health educators to create service-oriented resources to impact COVID-19 disparities and related social determinates of health.
The Metro Board of Health would grant to Meharry an amount not to exceed $115,500 as part of this grant contract.
The term of this grant is 18 months, beginning on December 1, 2022 and ending May 31, 2024.
Fiscal Note: The Metropolitan Board of Health would provide Meharry Medical College $115,500 per this grant contract.
