WHEREAS, Section 7-3-314 of the Tennessee Code Annotated states that metropolitan forms of government may provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations; and,

 

WHEREAS, Section 5.04.070 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that the Council may, by Resolution, appropriate funds for the financial aid of nonprofit organizations; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor’s Office has recommended that $137,000.00 of the funds appropriated for community safety grants in the Budget Ordinance (Substitute BL2022-1248), be distributed to The Contributor, Inc.; and,

 

WHEREAS, the grant funds will be utilized for the provision of Nashville Community Safety programs, specifically the implementation of a program focusing on the printing and distribution of physical copies along with the creation of a website and the expansion of the “Where to Turn in Nashville” resource guide; and,

 

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that these funds be appropriated to The Contributor Inc.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1.                     There is hereby appropriated $137,000.00 from Fund No. 30164 to fund a grant to The Contributor, Inc. to be used for the provision of Nashville Community Safety programs, specifically the implementation of a program focusing on the creation of a website and the expansion of the “Where to Turn in Nashville” resource guide.

 

Section 2.                     The grant contract between the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and The Contributor, Inc., attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

 

Section 3.                     That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution appropriates $137,000 from the Community Safety Fund for a grant to The Contributor, Inc. The Mayor’s Office has recommended that $137,000 of the funds appropriated for community safety grants in the Budget Ordinance (Substitute Ordinance No. BL2022-1248), be distributed to The Contributor, Inc for the provision of Nashville Community Safety programs -- specifically the implementation of a program focusing on the printing and distribution of physical copies along with the creation of a website and the expansion of the “Where to Turn in Nashville” resource guide.

 

The purpose of this grant contract is to improve access to resources for people experiencing homelessness and poverty, provide accurate and up-to-date information to nonprofits and citizens who want to help, expand the awareness and knowledge of available resources within the community, and promote sustainable and ongoing support for the program beyond the grant period.

 

The term of the contract begins May 17, 2023, and ends on June 30, 2024.
